Pine Processionary

With the arrival of spring, the pine forests of the Costa Blanca and Jávea are filled with a silent but lethal threat: the pine processionary caterpillar. The simple contact of your pet with these insects, or even sniffing their fallen nests, can cause a severe allergic reaction, necrosis of the tongue and even death by asphyxiation if you do not act quickly.

The most obvious symptoms include hypersalivation (excessive drooling), swelling of the face or tongue and very agitated behavior. At Animalets Veterinary Center in Xàbia, we consider this an absolute veterinary emergency. If you suspect that your dog has had contact with the processionary, do not wait: come immediately to our clinic to administer the necessary shock treatment.
