Filariasis (Heartworm)

Canine filariasis, known as heartworm, is a serious parasitic disease transmitted by mosquito bites. Due to the humid and warm climate of our area, pets living in Jávea and Marina Alta are at high risk of contracting it if they are not properly protected throughout the year.

This disease is silent and affects the heart and lungs, showing symptoms such as chronic cough, tiredness or difficulty breathing when it is already advanced. At Animalets Veterinary Center, we are committed to prevention: performing an annual rapid test and administering preventive treatment (monthly or annual injectable) is the only way to ensure that your pet is safe from this invisible threat.
